By revoking the easement that allows Line 5 to operate in the Straits of Mackinac, Governor Whitmer officially called for the closure of Line5. She gave a 180-day notice to Enbridge before the order to shut off the pipeline takes effect. This order started the countdown to a May 12, 2021 closure.
