There are an estimated 330,000 failing septic systems in the state of Michigan that are leaking into ground and surface waters. A new set of bills is currently being considered in the Michigan legislature that would enact a statewide septic code, something that every other state in the US has already done. Thanks to the many citizens and organization such as FLOW and CWA who have advocated for policy reforms to address Michigan’s failing water infrastructure for years. Reach out to your MI legislators and encourage them to support House Bills 4479 and 4480 and Senate Bills 299 and 300.
