Top 3 Reasons to say Hell No to Data Centers in our communities:
1. MASSIVE water consumption which has resulted in shocking negative impacts to communities across the country – draining aquifers, lowering water levels in local rivers and streams and effectively stealing community drinking water supplies.
2. MASSIVE energy consumption which has resulted in increased utility rates as well as ongoing noise and light pollution for many communities invaded by new data centers.
3. MASSIVE economic warfare. Rural communities across the country – from Ohio to Tennessee to Texas to California – are experiencing insignificant local economic benefits and shocking negative impacts. The jobs are short term and limited. These companies target economically depressed communities with boom and bust operations that exploit natural resources and labor for a short term economic gain, and leave behind serious long term negative impacts on tourism, agriculture, and property value.
Do working class people want to give big tech billionaries our water, our land, our power, and our future so that they can pay a few of us locals to build them their data centers to make way for AI? Do we even want AI? For what, a better google search in exchange for our jobs and our time our children’s attention? Is that what we want? Do we want to invite big corporations to come in with their carrott and continue to absolutely crush labor? AI steals working class jobs. Data centers are needed for AI and AI is primarily used as a way for the ultra rich to continue to not have to pay people for their work and keep us pacified. This is the worst kind of boom and bust.
The good news is, we can say no.
